Advances In Roofing Solutions

Traditional roofing systems are being challenged by the need for more durable, more versatile and more environmentally friendly solutions.

Of course there will always be a place for traditional roofing styles and systems, as articles in this supplement show. However, industrial and commercial structures, which are invariably flat to enable placement of air-conditioning units and other items, are another thing.

They may be required to cope with industrial air contamination or have other restrictions.

The Scarborough General Hospital article in the following pages, show the challenges for roofing contractors where the building has to remain open and fully operational and there can be no use of solvents or other fumes that could be drawing into the hospital air conditioning system.

In warehouse and other buildings with a wide span, available light can be another problem, so roofing solutions that maximise light are becoming increasingly more in demand.

Advanced skylights require less use of artificial lighting and, thereby, save costs.

The solutions are many and varied. Contractors World magazines regularly report on innovation in plant and equipment.

However, contractors are involved in much more than moving materials.

I hope that you will find this supplement looking at some of the latest developments that have been used of interest.
