Avondale Environmental take three CatsScotland

Avondale Environmental take three Cats

Finning supplied three new Caterpillar machines to Scotland based waste experts Avondale Environmental Ltd, for use in its new advanced waste treatment centre. The deal includes two new Cat 950H high-lift wheel loaders with high tip buckets and a Cat M318D excavator with a Cat G315B sorting grab. These units were supplied with full repair and maintenance contracts tailored to meet the site requirements.

The wheel loaders and excavator will be put to work at Avondale’s purpose built, residual waste processing plant in Polmont, Central Scotland. The £20m plant was officially opened in February 2012 and is capable of processing 200,000 tonnes of residual mixed municipal household, Commercial & Industrial, plus other selected wastes every year.

Avondale operations director, Stuart Egan commented, “Having developed the new site, it was important for us to match the mobile plant and equipment to the overall waste handling process, to ensure the highest productivity levels.
“As part of the equipment selection process we approached a number of equipment providers. The team at Finning were able to demonstrate a full equipment solutions package to us, matching up the work tools with the machines to optimise performance.

“The specifications and capabilities of the units were clearly important, but we also wanted to have the reassurance of uptime and service support. It was really a solution approach that we were looking for and Finning came to the table with not only the equipment, but a service package to support our needs.”

A Repair and Maintenance agreement supplies customers with the expertise to keep machines running whatever the circumstances. When tailored to meet a customer’s specific needs this option combines fixed budgeting costs with total peace of mind.

Further phases of Avondale’s Advanced Waste Treatment Centre will include the introduction of processes to support the production of high quality Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) increasing the percentage of waste diverted from landfill. Landfill diversion is a key tenet of the Scottish Government’s Zero Waste Regulations and provides opportunities to better serve the needs of the waste industry.
