Challenging Operation at Scarborough General Hospital - Page 3 of 3
All cracks and splits were made good with Gaco Pro Bridging Tape. As far as possible, all roof outlets were removed and replaced with new ones, set into the asphalt and coated over and down into the outlet. Gaco Pro Bridging Tape is a low profile, fusion-bonded polyester fibre designed to form a strong, yet conforming, membrane for silicone elastomeric coatings on uneven surfaces. It can be used to cover plywood joints, concrete construction joints, concrete cracks, and joints between metal, fibreglass or insulation, and combinations of the above substrates in roof, deck and wall specifications. With the roof preparation completed, the two coats of Gaco Pro Silicon were applied to the 670 m² roof area, The second coat can be applied once the first coat has cured which is dependent on the temperature and humidity. With the second coat applied and fully cured, Dewhurst installed walkways using ‘Gaco Walkpad Coating’ in yellow to complete the job. Access to the roof of the two storey building was via an internal roof access. The materials were delivered to the roof with an exterior access scaffold tower. “Once the preparation work was completed, applying the Gaco 100% liquid silicone was very easy. It flows smoothly and being odourless and fume free, is nicer to work with. Unlike other products, there are few issues in resealing a partially used container. There is no skin formation, etc. “ To overcome initial client concerns, the contractors did a small test to show the client the process and the end result. As a result, Philip says “The client is very satisfied with the result and will probably deliver more work at the hospital. The project was completed without any interruption to the normal hospital operations. Dewhurst Industrial Solutions, a family business, was established in 1876 as building contractors but, in recent years, diversified into liquid applied roofing systems, Quartz and resin flooring systems and hygiene wall coatings. Today, the company is a leading provider of roofing solutions to any requirement anywhere in the country that still engenders the original family values of delve ring perfection within the building sector. The company is confident that it can provide a cost efficient roofing solutions for any requirement whether it uses traditional slates and other tiles, felts, rubber and now 100% liquid applied silicone solutions.
