Out & About

Lafarge Tarmac - has bought 60 new JCB 2CX Streetmaster backhoe loaders in a massive deal worth £4 million.Lafarge Tarmac Spends Big

The UK's leading supplier of road surfacing and highway maintenance solutions - Lafarge Tarmac - has bought 60 new JCB 2CX Streetmaster backhoe loaders in a massive deal worth £4 million.

The order marks a 25-year partnership between Lafarge Tarmac and JCB for handling road maintenance projects. The latest machines were supplied by JCB dealer Gunn JCB.

The sustainable construction solutions company - which took delivery of its first 2CX Streetmaster model a quarter of a century ago - instigated the configuration for the latest batch of machines. It was developed in conjunction with the company’s operatives and Safety and Health team and the models purchased have been tailored to their exact requirements.

They feature enhanced lighting for night-time operations and a heavy-duty, rear-mounted JCB HM165 hand held breaker which reduces exposure to hand arm vibration. The backhoe loaders are also fitted with security devices including CESAR registration which comes as standard on JCB machines.

Lafarge Tarmac’s National Plant & Transport Manager, Jonathan Medforth said:

The JCB 2CX Streetmaster in its various guises has been our machine of choice for 25 years now. It truly is the workhorse of our contracting sites on a daily basis.

The machines will be put to work in various applications including long-term maintenance contracts, major new-build highway projects, airfield surfacing, lane rental type motorway and trunk road reconstruction schemes.

And There's More for Lafarge

As the Lafarge Contracting division continues to win highway projects with local and national highways authorities across the UK. This is gearing up to meet growing customer requirements created by the Government’s £16bn investment in the strategic road network.

Other investments includes twelve tracked high production Volvo 8820 pavers with the capability of laying over 300 mm in depth to a width of over 6.5 m. In addition, Vogele Super 1803-3i, Volvo 6870C and tracked 6820C pavers have been purchased and are already working on high-profile schemes including projects with the Highways Agency.

There are also 5 Wirtgen planers featuring a 2 m, three tracked 1 m and one 350 mm type plus over 80 pieces of high-tech compaction road equipment.

Super LGP – Hydrema 922 Dump Truck Joins the Fen Group fleetSuper LGP – Hydrema 922 Dump Truck Joins the Fen Group fleet

Following extensive trials over the winter in some very challenging conditions, Fen Group have decided to add the Hydrema 922 super low ground pressure dump trucks to the fleet.

The unique benefits of this high capacity, low ground pressure, dump truck proved invaluable in keeping wetland construction works on programme throughout an extremely wet winter on very unforgiving fenland.

Despite the conditions the Hydrema’s were able to keep moving, fully loaded, thanks to their lightweight construction and super flotation tyres.

This impressive performance persuaded Fen Group to add the Hydrema 922s to their line up of specialist low ground pressure equipment, which will be utilised by the in-house contracting team, but also made available to customers as part of our hire fleet.
