Innovative filter unit filled with stone to re-
build Lower Mole Flood Alleviation Scheme
Each unit was filled with two tonnes of
stone before being carefully positioned in
damaged sections of the Lower Mole Flood
Alleviation Scheme to repair the damage.
The filter units will maintain the flood de-
fences in the short term. The Environment
Agency is scheduling a programme of long-
term repairs to take place later in the year
Each of the 250 units, holding two tonnes
of rock, was carefully placed to rebuild the
banks of the River Mole.
Using a specially designed hanging eye,
the units were within the loading capacity of
a Komatsu long-reach excavator.
This was the first time that these filter
units have been used to repair damaged
river banks.
