Out & About
Hi-Reach Has Got Talent! AFI was not the only company to spot Hi-Reach’s noteworthy performance in the powered access industry when it acquired them recently – for Hi-Reach was also chosen to take centre stage on Britain’s Got Talent. Five machines from Hi-Reach’s Cardiff depot played a pivotal role in the first-ever live outdoor auditions on the prime time TV talent show held at the Millennium Centre in Cardiff. A Hi-Reach scissor lift with a working height of 11.75 m and decked out with a union flag provided a raised platform for judges Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and David Walliams to watch high diving team La Quebrada plunge into a pool from a height of 2 5m. Three other Hi-Reach scissors lifts together with a boom lift were also hired and used by the camera crew to capture the high-rise action and to provide lighting. The Hi-Reach scissor lift obviously gave the judges a spectacular view of the action as La Quebrada were awarded four yeses and went through to the next round. It is all go for E & JW Glendinning Ltd The future is looking good for E & JW Glendinning Ltd who has taken delivery of a Volvo L350F wheeled loader for its Linhay Quarry, Ashburton, Devon. The 52 tonne wheeled loader from Volvo was chosen following a competitive tender process but also in part to a long standing relationship between the two companies. It replaces a Volvo L330 that was originally delivered back in 1998 which will now be used on secondary duties having clocked up 21,366 hours. “We would have liked to have made the change much sooner than this but the effects of the recent recession put our purchasing decision on hold for obvious reasons,” explains Operations Manager Richard Webb. “The fact that the L330 has soldiered on for much longer than expected, we considered the L350F the preferred replacement for our operations.” |
