tonnage will be 12 t/h of RDF, at a material output size of
mm. The machine has two counter-rotating hydraulic-
driven shafts, which enables this high level of performance.
Safe Step Option from Terex
At the 2012 RWM exhibition in Birmingham, TDL
Equipment (the official UK dealer of Terex heavy line
construction equipment, Atlas material handlers and Genie
compact telehandlers) showcased a new, enhanced ‘safe
step’ option for the Atlas material handlers it distributes.
The five-step rotating retractable access system was
fitted to an Atlas 350MH. The steps, which are mounted
directly onto the operator’s cab support structure, can also
be custom-designed to suit the full Atlas material handler
The benefit of the system is that it allows direct access
and egress to the operator’s cab enabling three points of
contact at all times. The system safely
retracts when the operator either
turns the key off, lowers the safety
lever, applies the park brake or if the
machine loses power. Audible and
visual warnings in the cab and area
surrounding the steps alert both the
operator and surrounding workers
when the mechanism is moving.
TDL Sales Director, John Black,
commented: “For several years now
TDL Equipment has been focused on
offering solutions to the industry to
meet ever increasing health and safety
requirements. This optional access system is perfect for the
recycling and waste sectors as it provides safe and secure
access and egress and can be custom-designed to fit any
Atlas material handler.”
A feature of the steps is that they can be retro-fitted to
existing machines.
Specialist ‘ECO-DRIVE Training
from Finning
Finning UK has launched an Eco-Drive training programme
for the waste sector, aiming to help waste managers and
equipment operators reduce plant costs by up to 10%.
The programme is designed to identify opportunities
to tackle waste and improve performance, whilst reducing
fuel, maintenance and component costs.
The one day course, tailored to the specific audience
from landfill operations to waste transfer stations and
materials recycling facilities, is made up of specific
modules, each designed to drive up productivity, cut out
waste, increase component life and improve health and
safety onsite. These include:
Ground Engaging Tools, Track and Tyre wear
Operator best practice techniques and tips
Productivity and fuel economy
Cooling package, refuelling and daily maintenance
Equipment analytics and preventative maintenance
Commenting on the launch of the service, Jonathon
Davies, Finning strategic account manager for waste said:
Due to the nature and variety of waste operations in the
UK, the sector itself is very specific when it comes to the
use of plant and equipment. So when it came to looking at
how we could help the industry to increase productivity,
make valuable cost savings and improve health and safety,
it was obvious that an industry specific Eco-Drive training
programme was required. “
