Tier4 Interim CASE backhoes arrive in UK

Lancashire Case Construction Equipment dealer, Dennis Barnfield, has delivered the first two Case backhoes in the UK to be powered by the manufacturer’s new Tier 4 Interim compliant diesel engine.

Civil engineering contractor and plant hirer P&H Civils of Penrith has taken delivery of a top-of-the-range 695ST, a four equal-sized wheel machine powered by a 110 hp engine driving through a standard Powershift transmission.
The machine, which was supplied with a hydraulic hammer in addition to the standard backhoe bucket, features pilot controls for optimum precision and user comfort.

Meanwhile, Manx plant hirer Stephen Christian & Sons has bought a Case 590ST with Powershuttle transmission and a 110 hp engine. The 590ST shares all the features of the 695ST but comes with a choice of 20” or 18” front wheels.

Case 580STLeading the Way

Case was the first company to introduce a Tier 4 Interim compliant engine and these two machines are the first backhoes with this engine to be sold in the UK. Together with the 580ST, they offer customers a choice of three models to suit any worksite.

All T Series machines are now powered by the Case four-cylinder turbocharged 3.4 litre common-rail engine with cooled exhaust gas recirculation (CEGR). The Tier 4 Interim compliant power plant produces 97 hp (72 kW) for the 580ST, rising to 110 hp (82 kW) in the 590ST and the range-topping 695ST models.

As with all Case backhoes, the new models are available with the Case Hydraulic Quick Coupler, a factory-mounted device located within the dipper which enables rapid changing of buckets and other boom-mounted equipment.

The Hydraulic Quick Coupler requires no additional component to enable automatic tool-changing, and results in no loss of breakout force and no interference with the boom in its travelling position.

Why Customers come back to Case

Richard Christian, director of Stephen Christian & Sons of Kirk Michael, Isle of Man, says his firm has used Case machines for over 30 years.

“We run a range of diggers – and they’re all Case”, he comments. “We find them reliable and productive and we have a good relationship with our suppliers, Barnfield.”

Mr Christian’s new 590ST joins a Case 580LE which the company has been running for 12 years. Speaking in early August, a few days after taking delivery of the machine, Mr Christian said: “We haven’t put it out on site yet – it’s still outside my house and I want to do some practice with it first!”
