Councillor Paul Watson, Leader of Sunderland City Council and Chairman of the Port Board, said “This machine can go, quite literally, along any of the quaysides and working areas in the Port of Sunderland. It’s going to bring some significant benefits. Buying this materials handler represents a good investment in the port’s handling capacity.”

Port of Sunderland’s new Liebherr comes with an extremely high specification to ensure maximum versatility and optimum operating efficiency and safety. It has a 58 tonnes operating weight machine, powered by a Liebherr diesel engine develops 190 kW at 1,800 rpm.

This materials handler features a heavy-duty undercarriage, with 70 tonnes class excavator axles and large solid rubber tyres. The broad support base with four-point pads makes it more stable in operation and, as a result, the A 944 C HD Litronic has excellent load capacities of up to 4 tonnes at a working radius of 18 metres and a maximum lift height of 20 metres.

Contractors_World_Magazines_A-Plant Lux from PWSA-Plant Lux Enhances Fleet With 50 New Solar Powered Message Signs

To meet ever increasing customer demand for intelligent road signs, A-Plant Lux Traffic Control & Management, has purchased 50 new state-of-the-art Portable Solar Variable Messaging Signs (VMS) manufactured by PWS. The Highways Agency approved signs are going straight into the A-Plant fleet and are available to hire from A-Plant Lux depots nationally.

The signs offer optimum environmentally friendly features and can run for one whole year without the need for external re-charge. They operate using the latest LED and Solar Technology from an intuitive web based programme that allows customers to remotely update the message on the signs, offering benefits to users and motorists.

The signs can reduce costs massively, aid journey times, provide queue warnings and reduce primary incidents, along with offering several other advantages.

Jim McLachlan, Business Development Director for A-Plant Lux said: “We are confident that we can offer customers massive cost savings on the hire of VMS signs, as well as savings on running costs and reduced maintenance. The demand for environmentally friendly and cost efficient products is increasing and with the PWS Portable Solar Variable Messaging Signs we have a VMS that also offers customers environmental benefits such as super-silent features and no emissions.

Jim continues: “We believe the PWS signs really are the best on the market and offer a flexible solution for intelligent traffic management. The signs are fitted with a Portable Active Traffic Management System (PATMS) that offers the user the facility to manage the system from back in the office, saving cost and reacting quicker to changes in road conditions.

The system wirelessly integrates with traffic data sources to give real-time project control which not only benefits the customer but also the motorist by providing continuously updated information for example on incident detection or predicted journey times. In short, with our new VMS signs we are offering the latest technology at the best rates in the industry.”

The company now offers a vast range of products for hire, including Traffic Lights in 2, 3 and 4-way configurations, Variable Message Signs, Traffic Cones, Sign and Roadside Lighting, Event Signage and Chapter 8 Signing, Lighting and Guarding with Class 1 or Class 2 signs.
