cwmags-IntermatCat F Series backhoe loaders get make-over

Like all other companies, Caterpillar emphasises that the new engines meet current EU regulations, as if this is an option. It is a regulation that has to be complied with - the alternative being to pullout of this and other markets such as the USA and Japan,

As a result, Caterpillar is upgrading its E Series backhoe loader range, with the introduction of the F Series which has also been given a general make over.

The result is a series that, according to Caterpillar, will deliver improved performance, enhance visibility and serviceability and offer a range of engines to meet applicable emission standards. Single tilt and parallel arms boost front loader performance and enhance visibility. Full Autoshift is now available on the 428F and boosted brakes are now standard on all models.

Despite the legal requirement to install compliant engines, at a higher cost to customers, there is a significant benefit that is even more important as fuel costs continue to rise. Almost without exception, the new engines offer more power for fuel used.

In the European Union, the F Series Backhoe Loaders will use the Cat 4.4 engine that meets EU Stage IIIA until late in 2012, providing customers with an efficient and effective solution to meet their operating needs. An EU Stage IIIB solution will be phased in at the end of this year for the 428F and 432F, after which time, the 422F model will no longer be available in EU countries.

Driveline improvements boost economy

The full Autoshift transmissions will now be available on the 428F, in place of the previous powershift transmission. The 432F also boasts a revised torque converter, offering improved loading and road performance.

Performance at the loader end gets a boost. New loader arms for both the single tilt and the parallel lift models increase maximum hinge-pin height and maximum dump height by up to 3 percent, and lift capacity by as much as 15 percent.

A new hydraulic tank design with suction strainer improves machine reliability and incorporates a larger replaceable cartridge-type filter. With the batteries located in the nose of the machine there is a new battery isolator providing increased security.

A new footstep mounted on the front fender improves access to regular service points for daily level checks. The redesigned engine side panels require no tools to remove, making it easier for technicians to access the engine. A hinged cooling pack further improves access for cleaning and service, reducing downtime on site.
