IntermatCaterpillar gets ready for Intermat with early new product roll-outs

The economic recession seems to have aroused the tiger in Caterpillar, as the company has attacked the challenging situation aggressively - and with the apparent approval of shareholders as share values have continued to prove a good investment. That is not to say that the group did not have to make some difficult decisions with some rationalisation and the inevitable lay-offs such activities bring. But this is only to be expected when you acquire a large organisation such as Ruston Bucyrus and implement a program of full integration within the ‘Cat’ brand.

In recognition of the strength of its dealer networks and logistics capability, Caterpillar has also gone the way of several companies in entering into manufacturing alliances with other suppliers for specific products - for instance the supply of compact excavators branded as Cat but produced by Wacker Neuson, and telehandlers produced for Caterpillar by JLG.

What is in store for 2012? Well the company has announced no fewer than 64 new products during the year - that is more than will be unveiled at the major event for the year - Intermat for the construction industry. It will be at Minexpo in September that Caterpillar unveils its big guns and for the first time will show the world what it intends to deliver from the Bucyrus acquisition.

Contractors World could fill a complete issue with what’s new from Caterpillar for Intermat but that would be a little boring. So, we are featuring new products in this, the UK & Ireland edition and in the next International edition, with follow up reviews in both magazines as well as our special Contractors World Intermat Supplement, which will be the first e-supplement of its type being updated and extended over time.

The Cat K Series Small Wheel Loaders with new engines, hydrostatic drive and redesigned loader linkage.

The new Cat K Series Small Wheel Loaders—924K, 930K and 938K—are completely redesigned, incorporating new engines that meet Stage IIIB/Tier 4 Interim emissions standards and significant new features that deliver enhanced performance, fuel efficiency and operator comfort.

Caterpillar has also reclassified its product classes. The 938K is now classified as a small wheel loader, down from the compact wheel loader category.
