    Such was the deadline that work continued around the clock.The scheme will reduce the amount of storm water discharged through these pipes into the River Lune during storms, as the sewer network in North Shore of the city struggles to cope during heavy downpours.

The first phase of work saw the construction of the new crossing pipe 2 metres beneath the river near Kingsway, GHA Livigunn were appointed by Volker Stevin to undertake the detailed design. The project involved the transfer of continuation flows via a new rising main crossing the River Lune.

    The project required meticulous planning due to environmental considerations and the migration of salmon and trout. There was a limited period between June and the end of September in which the works had to be undertaken to comply with regulations from the Marine Management Organisation.

GHA Livigunn design services included;

  • Detailed design of approximately 161 m of rising main within the channel of the River Lune
  • Detailed design of approximately 42 m of rising main along the banks of the River Lune
  • Specification of primary and secondary pipeline
  • Design of anti-flotation measures
  • Civils 3D modelling to optimise the pipework alignment
