Snow Ready with New Bobcat Loader

Herdsman Builders, the building contractor based at Beverley in East Yorkshire, has purchased a new Bobcat S100 skid-steer loader and attachments from Scunthorpe-based AMS Bobcat, the authorised Bobcat dealer for Lincolnshire and South and East Yorkshire,.

Like most parts of the UK during last winter, local communities in North and East Yorkshire were hit by heavy snowfalls, with many people unable to get to work and businesses and schools being closed as result.

Similar conditions are predicted for next winter and Herdsman Builders has purchased the Bobcat with angle blade and bucket atachments to provide snow and ice clearance on urban and country roads; pavements; car parks; superstores and other out-of-town locatons; driveways; parks; school playgrounds and sports felds in the area.

The combinaton of the new loader and the snow atachments represents an important diversifcaton for Herdsman Builders. Director, Andrew Herdsman, said: “We are a private and commercial property builder, but if we don’t have any inside work to do, the bad weather stops us from working as well – we can’t lay bricks and heavy snow stops us working completely. Afer last winter when local communites were virtually snowed in, this area and the wheels of the local economy froze, I hope that with the new plant and atachments, we can keep local businesses and communites going.” The skid steer has low operatng weight with bucket of just 1800 kg allowing it to be easily transported on a trailer behind virtually any 4-wheel drive and move swifly from one snow clearance job to another.

With a height of 1878 mm, length without atachment of 2262 mm and width over the tyres of 1182 mm it is easy to manoeuvre efciently in confned spaces.

Bespoke steel Pavilion for Hyde Park triathlon

As part of Tata Steel’s long-term support for the Britsh Triathlon Federaton (BTF), a design team from the company has been working alongside race organisers and competton managers to develop a pioneering spectator sports venue for this year’s Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship presented by Tata Steel in Hyde Park, London.

The Tata Steel Pavilion will form the centrepiece of the event’s VIP area. The spectator enclosure has been designed using post-tensioned structural steelwork based on Tata Steel’s proprietary range of Celsius 355 structural hollow secton tubular steel products.

Mat Teague, Tata Steel’s Senior Design Manager, Constructon Solutons, commented: “The Tata Steel Pavilion brief called for a bespoke structure that would showcase innovatve steel design, but also show restraint in materials used. The paired-arch design displays both a lightweight aesthetc and the potental of a stfer structure that enables impressive clear-span capability. We believe we are the first company to apply post-tensioned steel technology as a solution for temporary sports infrastructure in the UK. The result is flexible and sustainable: a two-storey venue comprising
